Position Title:       Aiken iNNOVATE Virtual Teacher

SUMMARY: 
Aiken INNOVATE Virtual Teachers are expected to facilitate from an assigned ACPSD location and provide virtual instruction for students. Before the start of each semester, virtual teachers personalize and prepare their courses for instructional use.  Teachers will communicate with students, parents, counselors, and administrators to make sure student needs are being met.  Teachers will facilitate live virtual instruction daily and assist students with questions about the course content.  Also, virtual teachers will assist students and parents in technology issues that arise in their course.  Aiken INNOVATE Virtual Teachers will regularly monitor student progress, updating grades weekly and responding to all communications from students, parents, and administrators within 24 hours. 

 

In addition to teaching duties, Aiken iNNOVATE teachers will build ACPSD courses in the Schoology LMS.  Courses will be built based on ACPSD design guidelines and will follow the Quality Matters K12 design rubric.  Teachers will be trained in course design and will build courses on Personalized Academic Support days when not assisting students. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Be familiar with district virtual course materials and supplemental materials.
  • Develop and maintain course material on Schoology.
  • Personalize and cultivate a positive virtual learning environment.
  • Ensure all students have access to virtual and supplemental materials.
  • Facilitate live, interactive virtual instruction for students and parents.
  • Hold daily office hours.
  • Communicate with parents and students regularly.
  • Actively monitor student progress.
  • Update grades weekly.
  • Participate in district professional learning communities and required trainings/meetings for virtual teachers.
  • Build quality courses in the Schoology LMS and follow course project timelines.
  • Adhere to all Aiken County Public School teacher requirements and deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Current ACPSD Employee

Valid South Carolina Certificate in the specific content and course to be taught

Minimum of three years teaching experience. Virtual Teaching Endorsement preferred.

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 
Valid SC Professional Teaching License
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Supervises assigned students.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and instructional manuals.  Ability to provide instruction to students through written explanation or recorded demonstrations. Ability to write content aligned activities and formative assessments. Ability to provide written communication with students, parents, and counselors,
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
 
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise in the course they are teaching. Ability to supervise students in a virtual classroom.  Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the “chain of command” as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures.
 
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
 
Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.  Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning. 
 
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and administration.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually. Passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help student find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts they do not understand.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year.  Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

Performance of this job evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
