SUMMARY: 

The purpose of the Parent Involvement Aide is to work with all stakeholders to help promote parent involvement and parent events and provide clear communication and excellent customer service while keeping the mission of the school/district as the top priority.   Under direct supervision, is a liaison between the school and community to increase parent participation in school events and activities and well as increase home-school relations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works closely with parent groups to make sure that information is disseminated in a timely manner to streamline communication.
  • Provides assistance with home-school relations and assisting teachers with activities related to facilitating effective communication with parents and stakeholders.
  • Support home-school relations such as preparing copies, preparing mailings, performing light typing and data entry, etc. May use computers in performing assigned tasks.
  • Duties may be specialized as required by need from different parent groups (School Improvement Council, Parent Teacher Organizations etc.) or as assigned by the administration.
  • Assist with volunteer programs and keep a record of all available volunteers and their strengths.
  • Plan and host school events and activities such as parent workshops, parent programs, subject area days/nights, carnivals, beautification days, etc.
  • Participate in committee meetings for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to plan activities.
  • Keep parent meeting minutes and follow up with assignments.
  • Assist with parent workshops on a variety of topics based on the school’s needs.
  • Assist with teacher events and incentive programs.
  • Work closely with the PTA board to stay informed of all activities and help plan events.
  • Relay information to all stakeholders concerning events and fundraisers.
  • Keep school calendar and event information up to date in order to provide accurate information and plan activities effectively.
  • Compile and print monthly/weekly newsletter, communicate updates to website and Facebook pages, and create automated calls to parent to inform them of events.
  • Distribute, collect, and compile parent involvement surveys.
  • Maintain front office bulletin board and marquee.
  • Maintain the school’s parent room where parents can access resources.
  • Meet regularly with principal to develop and review work plan and assess the impact of the work on student outcomes.
  • Respond to parents in a positive manner and refer parents to appropriate staff.
  • Keep a contact log of interactions with parents, students, and community partners.
  • Serve on the SIC, PTO, etc.
  • Greet/welcome parents and conduct school tours.
  • Work with guidance department to provide support to parents new to the school.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned for the purpose of assisting others and assisting in the completion of program activities.
  • Work closely with teachers in order to help students with organization skills related to expectations for homework assignments.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma; meets highly qualified standards as defined by NCLB Act of 2001: Associates Degree preferred, 60 hours college credit from an accredited college, or passing score on the ParaPro Exam.  A good knowledge of and understanding of child growth and development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write and/or type routine reports and correspondences.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of district personnel or organizations.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of data.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental, and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.  Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, district employees, and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.  Ability to help students with academic work.

Conducts duties in a classroom environment with some exposure to environmental conditions, primarily due to the outside supervision of students.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

181 Days, 18 Hours (per week)

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday - 6 hours per day

Aide Hourly Pay Scale

 

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year.  Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

 

EVALUATION: 

Performance of this job evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
